Engine pistons are made of metals, usually aluminum alloy, but also cast iron pistons, and steel pistons. The crankshaft is made of cast iron, the connecting rod is made of cast iron, and so on.
The OC450LC-8 and PC400LC-8 excavator models feature a robust and reliable diesel engine piston that plays a critical role in the engine's performance. Designed for durability and efficiency, this piston is specifically engineered to meet the demands of heavy-duty excavation and construction tasks.
The diesel engine piston in these excavators is crafted from high-quality materials, such as heat-resistant alloys, to withstand the extreme temperatures and pressures that occur within the combustion chamber. Its precise design ensures a proper fit, reducing friction and wear, which ultimately enhances the engine's overall longevity and efficiency.
Furthermore, the piston's crown and ring grooves are meticulously machined to facilitate efficient combustion and minimize emissions, adhering to stringent environmental standards. This design choice not only helps reduce the environmental impact of the machine but also ensures compliance with emission regulations.
The piston is a versatile component used in a wide range of equipment, providing reliable power support and improving equipment efficiency and economic benefits. Made from high-strength cast iron material, it offers excellent performance at an affordable cost, making it a practical and convenient choice. Its ability to be easily shaped into complicated sizes makes it highly suitable for use in engines.
Supply Reliable Power Support and Improve the Engine’s Efficiency:
It is designed to withstand the high temperatures and pressures generated by the engine’s combustion process, ensuring that the engine operates smoothly and efficiently. The piston is made from high-strength cast iron material, which offers excellent wear resistance and durability. This ensures that the piston can withstand the constant friction and heat generated during engine operation, extending its lifespan and reducing the need for frequent replacements. Moreover, the good-quality piston makes engine with high efficiency to drive, so you do not worry that your engine will be suddenly in fault.
Good Reliability:
The piston is not only durable but also highly adaptable to different working environments and conditions. It can operate effectively in a wide range of temperatures and pressures, making it suitable for use in various equipment and applications. This versatility ensures that the piston can perform optimally in different settings, providing reliable power support and improving the engine’s efficiency. Whether it’s used in heavy-duty machinery or smaller equipment, the piston can deliver consistent performance and withstand the demands of different working environments.
Easy Maintenance:
The piston is designed for easy maintenance and replacement, which reduces downtime and maintenance costs, making it a cost-effective solution for engine needs. Its simple shape and advanced technology make it convenient to maintain, and even if you don’t have any professional knowledge about it, you can still replace it with ease. This user-friendly design ensures that the piston can be quickly and easily replaced when necessary.

Engine pistons are made of metal, usually aluminum alloy, but also cast iron pistons, and steel pistons. The material used for related parts is different, the crankshaft is made of cast iron, the connecting rod is made of cast iron, the oil pan is made of aluminum, the cylinder block is made of cast iron or aluminum alloy, and the more advanced one is made of magnesium aluminum alloy.
Characteristics of piston
1. The piston works under high temperature, high pressure, high speed, and poor lubrication conditions. The piston is in direct contact with the high-temperature gas, the instantaneous temperature can reach more than 2500K, therefore, the heat is serious, and the heat dissipation conditions are very poor, so the piston works at a very high temperature, the top is up to 600-700K, and the temperature distribution is very uneven.
2. The top of the piston is subject to high gas pressure, especially the maximum pressure of the working stroke, up to 3 ~ 5MPa in gasoline engines, up to 6 ~ 9MPa in diesel engines, which makes the piston impact, and the role of side pressure.
3. Piston in the cylinder at a very high speed (8 ~ 12m / s) reciprocating motion, and the speed is constantly changing, which produces a large inertia force so that the piston is subject to a large additional load.
4. Piston working under such harsh conditions, will produce deformation and accelerate wear, but also generate additional load and thermal stress while being subject to the chemical corrosion of gas.
Structure of piston
The basic structure of a piston can be divided into top, head, and skirt. The piston also forms the combustion chamber together with the cylinder head and cylinder wall.
The following is the piston structure.
1. Piston top. Piston top is a component of the combustion chamber, and therefore often made of different shapes, gasoline engine piston top mostly flat top or concave top, to make the combustion chamber compact structure, small heat dissipation area, simple manufacturing process;
2. Piston head. The piston head is the part above the piston pin seat, piston head is installed on the piston ring, to prevent high temperature, high-pressure gas into the crankcase, while preventing the oil from fleeing into the combustion chamber; the piston top of the heat absorbed by most of the piston head to the cylinder, and then through the cooling medium;
3. Piston skirt. All parts below the piston ring groove are called piston skirts. Its role is to guide the piston in the cylinder for reciprocating motion and side pressure. When the engine is working, the piston will be bent and deformed because of the gas pressure in the cylinder. When the piston is heated, its expansion is greater than all other places because of more metal at the piston pin.
Piston manufacturing process requirements
Because the top of the piston is in direct contact with high temperature and certain corrosive gas and is subject to high-speed movement, cyclic change of gas pressure and inertia force, poor lubrication conditions, and heat dissipation conditions, so the working conditions of the piston are extremely harsh, for the piston manufacturing and process also put forward the corresponding requirements: 1 manufacturing must have a high degree of accuracy.
1. Manufacturing must have a high degree of accuracy to ensure that the piston and the cylinder wall are between a small friction factor.
2. Material must have a small mass to reduce inertia.
3. There is enough strength and stiffness, especially in the piston pin groove area to have greater strength to prevent damage to the piston pin.
4. Heat resistant at the top of the piston, with some elasticity in the skirt.
5. Good thermal conductivity and reasonable thermal expansion to have reasonable installation clearance.
6. Some wear resistance to prevent excessive wear from cyclic motion.
