The piston ring is a metal sealing ring with certain elasticity, which is assembled in the piston ring groove and seals the cylinder together with the piston. There are many different shapes of piston rings, and different shapes of piston rings have different characteristics.

Rectangular ring

The section of the rectangular ring is rectangular. The utility model has the advantages of simple shape, convenient processing, and large contact area with the cylinder wall, which is conducive to the heat dissipation of the piston. However, the running in performance is poor and the pump oil function is strong, which increases the oil consumption and causes serious carbon deposition on the piston crown and combustion chamber. Now, this kind of piston ring is rarely used.

Conical ring

The outer surface of the conical ring is a cone with a very small cone angle (the cone angle is generally 30 '~60'). The conical ring is in linear contact with the cylinder wall, with good running performance, which increases the contact pressure and the adaptability to the shape of the cylinder wall; However, with the increase of running degree, the contact surface gradually becomes larger, and finally becomes an ordinary rectangular ring. In addition, the cone ring can scrape oil downward when the piston moves down, and distribute oil when the piston moves up, which can form a wedge-shaped oil film to improve lubrication. However, the cone ring has poor heat transfer, so it is not used as the first gas ring. Since the cone angle is very small, it is generally difficult to identify. To avoid the wrong installation, the upper side of the ring is marked with an upward mark (TOP).

Twisted ring

A twisted ring is a kind of piston ring that cuts apart at the edge of the inner circle or outer circle of the rectangular ring to make the section asymmetric. If the groove or chamfer is cut in the inner circle of the ring, it is called an inscribed ring, and if the groove or chamfer is cut in the outer circle of the ring, it is called a circumscribed ring. If the upper edge of the inner circle or the lower edge of the outer circle is cut off, the whole air ring will be twisted into a disc shape, then this ring is called a positive twist ring; If the lower edge of the inner circle is cut off, the air ring will be twisted into a cover shape, which is called an anti-twist ring.

After the twisted ring is installed into the cylinder, the piston ring is twisted and deformed due to the unbalanced force caused by the asymmetric section. The utility model has the characteristics of a conical ring, which can distribute oil when the piston moves upward and can form a wedge-shaped oil film to improve lubrication; When the piston goes down, it has the effect of oil scraping to avoid burning the oil.
